Bolis Pupul live at Trix (Antwerp, March 22, 2024)

Bolis Pupul has started his club tour to celebrate the release of his debut album ‘Letter To Yu‘, that was released on DEEWEE on March 8.

I went to see him at Trix, Antwerpen. Possible future DEEWEE signing Liesa Van Der Aa was first on stage. I saw her at DEEWEE’s Nachtwinkel last year, and recently supporting Soulwax at Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.
Liesa, who’s also an actress and has already released an album the past, is slowly crafting her new songs and live set. She sounds funky, quirky and probably the only DEEWEE artist to use a violin on stage.

Bolis started his set with the more slower songs, like ‘Goodnight Mr Yi’ (without the sample of the children’s choir), ‘Moon Theme’, ‘Causeway Bae’ and ‘Completely Half’ – which was definitely the first highlight of the set. The crowd sang along while Bolis got away from his synths to sing and dance at the front of the stage.

‘Are you ready to dance?’ he asked, before turning up the beats with songs like ‘Frogs’ and ‘Kowloon’. Other highlights were ‘Wei?’ and ‘Teknow’ from his other releases on DEEWEE. Just like on there record, his sister Salah Pupul joined him on stage for ‘Ma Tau Wai Road‘.

Although most of the time Bolis is stuck behind his gear, the simple but very effective light show elevated his live set to another level. With the new album, Bolis Pupul is definitely ready for the bigger stage!
