Even from the early days as ‘the flying dewaele brothers’ Dave and Steph stood out from other djs by mixing pop, disco and rock tunes in a way that it all made sense on the dance floor.
The dance tracks in their sets in the late nineties were not really techno tracks, they were from more alternative dance acts like Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Laurent Garnier or even Armand Van Helden.
Things changed with the arrival of more electro inspired tunes like ‘Sunglasses At Night’, ‘Silver Screen Shower Scene’ and ‘La Rock 01’ by Vitalic.
Vitalic, real name Pascal Abrez, released his Poney EP on DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolos label, which played a pivotal role in launching the ‘electro clash’ sound.
2manydjs have had it in their set since the release in 2001. It was part of ‘As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt 2’, which made the song even more popular.
Of course ‘La Rock’ was also used in their live ‘Under The Covers’ set, often mashed up with vocals of Diddy’s ‘20 Minute Versions’.
