This is the second post of a series in which I look back at all the DEEWEE releases in a chronological order.
You could say that the second release on DEEWEE in 2015 wasn’t actually a new release since ‘2007’ by Die Verboten was recorded in that year (and ‘rediscovered in 2015’ if legend is true).
Labeled as ‘the first album’, Dave and Steph had already released an EP by Die Verboten back in 2009 called ‘Live In Eivissa’ with the help of The Vinyl Factory.
I’ll write another post about the EP in the future, but what stood out was the amazing packaging because you can fold the cover art into a spectacular pyramid.
Here’s a short video:
Live In Eivissa hasn’t been repressed, so if want one you’ll have to search hard for it. At the moment there isn’t even one for sale on discogs.
Die Verboten was a side project of Dave and Steph, but also featured Henry Smithson (aka Riton) and Fergus Purcell (aka Fergadelic, who did a lot of their artwork at the time). According to the press release, the album was recorded in 2007 and ‘rediscovered’ in 2015 and mixed at DEEWEE.
This LP consists of five tracks: Dafalganger, White Island, E40, Nacht Winkel and Aquarius. Each side starts with a narration from one of the members of Die Verboten saying: “DeeWee 003, side … (A, B, C or D)”. Sides A, B, and C end in a locked run out groove.
From the press release:
It is the sound of classic German kosmiche, live drums, synths, percussion and a loose funk you only find in these kind of stretched fluid grooves.
