U Look Like A Gay
You could say this “mysterious” track ‘U Look Like A Gay’ by Homotronic is inspired by Daft Punk’s ‘Teachers’, which got a rework on Soulwax’ Nite Versions in 2005.
This 12″ was released two years later, in 2007, and at the time there was a lot of speculation of who was behind ‘Homotronic’.
NME thought it could be Soulwax, probably because they are close friends with Tiga and it’s an electro tune. But if you just listen to the tune, you got to admit it’s not really that brilliant. Even if it would have been a joke by Dave and Steph, the production of the track would have been much better.
But hey, it was the first and last time I got mentioned in the legendary music magazine from the UK (even though they got my name wrong). And a bit of publicity for the soulwax.info forum.
Can’t say the joke lasted long. Looking at the credits on discogs it appears ‘Homotronic’ were the guys behind Motor, with a little help from Terence Fixmer.
What is surprising is that – according to discogs again – the vocals were done by Douglas McCarthy from Nitzer Ebb.
