2manydjs classics (5) : DJ Kool – Let Me Clear My Throat

What? Yes, dear reader of this blog: ‘Let Me Clear My Throat’ is a 2manydjs classic. Although I must admit I don’t think they played it anymore since 2000?

But as ‘the flying Dewaele Brothers’ back in ‘98 and ‘99, this tune was always in their sets. The live part of the song worked really great: “At the count of three I want everybody in the place to be, to make some noise if ya down with me – One, two, three”.

It’s one of those tracks no one else would play in a mix with Blue Monday, Push It, Red Alert and Controversy.

DJ Kool released the track in 1996, and it’s actually a live version recorded at the Bahama Bay Club in Philadelphia.

It features a sample taken from ‘Hollywood Swinging’ by Kool And The Gang:

And this sample from ‘The 900 Number’ by The 45 King:

DJ Kool made another version featuring Biz Markie and Doug E Fresh, but Dave And Steph always played the Bahama Bay live version.

Every time I hear this song, it takes me back to the time when The Flying Dewaele Brothers we’re resident dj’s at ‘Noodlanding’, the weekly Thursday night party at Paradiso, Amsterdam.

Later, in the second episode of the second season of the Hang The Dj radio shows they used this ‘Let Me Clear My Funk’ remix by DJ LBR. This is a mashup of DJ Kool’s vocals and a lot of classic disco and funk tunes:
