If you’ve ever attended one of those Despacio nights, you might have a few favorite tracks that you heard on the dancefloor under the giant disco ball. For me, one of those tracks is ‘Mingy’ by Mim Suleiman.
If if remember correctly I heard at the very first Despacio event, at the Manchester International Festival in 2013. This rhythmic track by Mim Suleiman was produced by Maurice Fulton and released on her debut album ‘Tungi’ back in 2010. It is one of those tracks Dave, Steph and James would play at the beginning of the night, when people are still coming in and admiring the stacks.
Here’s a short review of when the 12″ came out:
RB super proudly presents: Mim Suleiman!
The Zanzibar born and Sheffield based singer/songwriter/performer made quite a name for herself on the afro-beat stages of this world with her mixture of East African vocals and percussive traditions. Mingi is the second single accompanying her mesmerizing album Tungi, which has Mim singing and writing in her native tongue Swahili and is a mixture of all things ultramodern afro beat, rhythm trax and futuristic pop music.
Here we have a seductive 808-drum-groove, a high life like guitar and Mims irresistible hook line. Instrumental on the flip for extended mixing pleasure and double copy pressure. Produced by Maurice Fulton. Mim says BlessUp! Big Up!
Dave and Steph also included the track on the ‘Soulwax FM’ channel in GTA V:
