For a band that’s been making records for nearly thirty years now, there haven’t been a lot of cover versions of Soulwax tracks around.

This one though, is probably the most peculiar one. Five years after ‘Much Against Everyone’s Advice‘ was released, Italian singer put a cover version of ‘Saturday‘ on his 2004 album ‘Ti Porto In Africa’.

I have no clue why Mango chose to cover a track from a rockband from Belgium, nor what the song has to do with Africa.

Guiseppe Mango was a famous singer in Italy, where he got his breakthrough in the mid 80s with the album ‘Odissea’. The album ‘Ti Porta In Africa’ went double platinum. Mango was married to Laura Valente, lead singer of Matia Bazar. He died on stage in 2014, suffering from a heart attack while singing ‘Oro’ – one of his most famous songs.
