DEEWEE 016: Soulwax ft. Chloë Sevigny for Régime Des Fleurs – Heaven Scent / Heaven Scent (DEEWEEDUB)

DEEWEE 016 is the first release on Dave and Steph’s label as Soulwax.

They produced this track for luxury perfume brand Régime Des Fleurs. It was part of a bigger musical project, curated by DJ Michel Gaubert, which was launched in March 2016.

Some more info on the project:

This project exploring style and sound comes courtesy of acclaimed fashion DJ Michel Gaubert–the man behind the catwalk soundtracks of Chanel, Gucci, J.W. Anderson and many more–style icon Chloë Sevigny and LA fragrance house Régime des Fleurs. Prayer To Saint Therese – A Sonic Poem By Regime Des Fleurs (Feat. Chloë Sevigny) came about after Alia Raza and Ezra Woods, the founders of Régime des Fleurs, penned a poem for Sevigny, while musing on what makes a cult icon and the long-standing adoration for Saint Therese. They turned to Gaubert to give the work a score.

Gaubert has long been intrigued by Sevigny. No stranger to a cult following, he is known for his playful, provocative Instagram account, where he regularly posted images of Sevigny. Gaubert’s interest in ‘remixing’ Sevigny through her various eras of image in a series hash-tagged, ‘When I…’, informed the ethos of this project, which sees a variety of Gaubert’s musician friends tasked with producing their own mix of the poem. The results, contributed by Soulwax, The Love and Trust Collective, Io Echo, JD Twitch, Peaking Lights and Johnny Jewel, are available to stream here. Every track was informed by each artist’s unique understanding of Sevigny, the image of Saint Therese as a cult figure and factors relating to music scenes or backgrounds they may be aligned with or influenced by. The original acapella version, recorded by Sevigny, is also available, giving listeners the chance to understand the process by which the recording developed in such diverse ways.

On the B-side there’s an instrumental DEEWEEDUB version:

Heaven Scent is taken from the poem ‘Prayer To Saint Thérése’, read by Chloë Sevigny. This is the original acapella:

A white label promo version, including info sheet, was made.

The painting on the cover is ‘Bouquet of Flowers’ by Edouard Manet from 1882.
