Normally, today’s post would be part of the ‘Most Of The Remixes‘ series on this blog. But I have a reason I want it to write about this remix today.
So, let’s go back in time: in 2022 Soulwax remixed ‘Odyssey’ by French legend Sébastien Tellier. The first time we heard the remix was in the Channel SS 2022 show, which took place at the Grand Palais Éphémère, in a setting designed by Xavier Veilhan.
Tellier performed a series of new tracks specially composed for the occasion on oversized instruments, and the Cristal Baschet, a rare crystal organ from the Studio Venezia of the French Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017.
The Soulwax remix of ‘Odyssey’ stands out, it’s a brilliant piece of music and I loved it from the very first minute.
The remix became available on all digital platforms, but Channel released a promotional 12″ that includes the Soulwax remix. It’s unknown how many copies were pressed, but it was only given to people attending the runway show or working at Channel.
Even Soulwax’ management couldn’t get hold of a copy.
So right from the beginning this was a very expensive 12″ if you wanted to buy one on Discogs or eBay. I just couldn’t justify spending 150 to 200 Euros or more on this release.
After three years of not buying it, I recently found a copy on eBay for a reasonable price. It came all the way from Los Angeles, and even with shipping and customs I got it just over 100 Euros.
And it arrived today! A nice item to add to the collection.
