Every Thursday I look back to the past.
Dave and Steph have made countless edits of tracks, which they made to play in their dj sets. Some of these edits were played by them so much in a certain period of time, they’ve become a 2manydjs classic. And some of them got an official release, which is the reason they are listed among their remixes on soulwax.info.
One of these well known Soulwax edits is ‘A Fifth Of Beethoven’, a 1976 instrumental track by Walter Murphy – which can also be found on the soundtrack of ‘Saturday Night Fever’. They tweaked this disco track and for a couple of years played it in almost all of their dj sets.
I can’t pinpoint the exact date of when they made it, but it must have been around 2008 since I made a little video of the track in that year.
(I just noticed my original upload has vanished from youtube but someone else ripped and reupload it in 2009, with more than 130k views at the moment)
There isn’t a real ‘official’ release, but their edit was included in a 2010 compilation album by International Deejay Gigolo Records – so you can get it if you want.
A couple of white label 12″ test pressings exist, but they were never released.

It is also the first track on ‘D&SCO’, the disco themed hour on Radio Soulwax and they also played the track with visual in their live ‘Under The Covers‘ sets.
