The singer has become a deejay

Marie Davidson has released her album ‘City Of Clowns’ today on DEEWEE.

The first collaboration between Davidson and the Dewaeles was the Grammy nominated Soulwax remix of her track ‘Work It’ in 2019, which has become a really classic.

MARIE DAVIDSON RELEASES ALBUM ‘CITY OF CLOWNS’

Today The Canadian DJ-producer Marie Davidson releases her sixth studio album City Of Clowns, made in collaboration with Soulwax and Pierre Guerineau (Essaie pas, L’Œil Nu, Feu St-Antoine). The album has received international acclaim with features in Pitchfork, Libération, DJ Mag and Rolling Stone amongst others.

Overall there are two poles in the narrative of City Of Clowns. One being digital life & surveillance capitalism that comes with it, the other being humour, from a woman’s perspective. These two poles are not necessarily intertwined, except in the song Push Me Fuckhead where Marie humorously depicts deceitful interactions with computerized services.

In songs like Fun Times and Sexy Clown, she is joking around, from a woman’s perspective. These two tracks are winking at modern themes and anxieties such as: staying relevant as an artist, ageism, perfectionism and self actualization.

In Y.A.A.M. she humorously asserts her will to stay an imperfect individual, in an ocean of curated entrepreneurs and influencers. She also invites her people, the weirdos, to live with passion and possibly lend her a piece of their asses while they listen to the song.
